What Rotate PDF does
Rotate PDF turns sideways or upside-down pages the right way up, a quarter turn at a time, one page or all of them. Each turn is stored as the page's orientation setting, so page content is not re-encoded: text stays searchable, images keep their exact quality, and the turn is saved into the file rather than only into the view. The result is saved as a new copy of the document, and a few settings outside the pages do not come with it. The PDF is opened in your browser and never uploaded.
How to rotate PDF in your browser
- Choose the PDF Select the PDF with pages facing the wrong way. Every page appears as a thumbnail in this browser tab; nothing is uploaded.
- Turn the pages Hover a page and use ⟲ or ⟳, or focus it and press R (Shift+R turns it back). Turn all left and Turn all right turn every page at once, and Undo takes back a turn.
- Save the rotated copy Select Rotate, check that the pages face the right way in the result, then save the new PDF. The original file is unchanged.
Worked example
Correct a sideways page in an otherwise upright scanned agreement.
- Starting point
- Choose the mixed-orientation PDF and identify the sideways page in the preview.
- What to do
- Turn that page until its text is upright. Use the all-pages control only when every page needs the same turn.
- Result
- The saved PDF retains its page content and changes page rotation. Check both the corrected page and an originally upright page.
If the result is not right
If a page turns the wrong way, turn it again in the preview before exporting. Do not apply a global rotation just to fix one page.
Limits worth knowing
- Landscape paper does not always mean incorrect rotation. Read the text direction rather than judging the thumbnail shape alone.
- This workflow stops on interactive forms rather than risk losing their fields. Use Flatten first and check every visible answer in that saved copy, then open the flattened PDF here. Keep the editable original; protected or XFA forms may need a compatible form application first.
Questions and answers
How do I fix a scan where every other page is upside down?
There is no one-click option for alternate pages, so turn each one: press ⟳ on it twice, or work from the keyboard, where the arrow keys move between pages and each press of R adds a quarter turn. Every page's label shows the turn it will get, such as 4 · 180°, so you can check the whole set before saving.
Can it straighten a page that is only slightly crooked?
No. Pages turn in quarter turns, so Rotate PDF fixes pages that are sideways or upside down, not a scan that sits a few degrees off. If you still have the paper, photograph it again with Scan to PDF, which squares the page up from the edges of the sheet, or levels the lines of text when it cannot find the edges.
Can I rotate just one page?
Yes. Turn any single page with the buttons on its thumbnail and leave the rest alone; pages you do not touch keep the orientation they already had. That is the usual fix for one landscape table inside a portrait report.
What do Turn all left and Turn all right do to pages I have already turned?
They add a quarter turn to every page, including any you have already set right, so those turn again with the rest. Use Turn all first when the whole document is sideways, then correct single pages; Undo takes back the last change, one step at a time.
Does turning a page change anything else about it?
The pages themselves change only in their orientation setting: their text, images and fonts are copied exactly as they were, so text stays selectable and the file stays about the same size. The file around them is rebuilt, though. Bookmarks still point at the right pages, and the title and author are kept, but files attached to the document, accessibility tags, page labels and hidden-layer settings are not carried over, so a layer that was switched off shows again, and links that jump from one page to another no longer go where they did. Rotate PDF also stops at a fillable form rather than risk losing its fields.
