Adobe Acrobat online alternative
Adobe Acrobat online is free to try. Filozy needs no account or upload.
Acrobat online, which Adobe’s plans call “Acrobat online services”, is Adobe’s set of PDF and e-signature tools that you use in a web browser. As of September 2026, Adobe offers “25+ powerful PDF and e-signing tools for free” online, with conditions. Compress and PDF to Word let you download without an account, within usage limits; Split, OCR, Fill & Sign and the online editor ask you to sign in before you can download the result; unlimited compression and conversion, batch processing and editing a PDF’s existing text need a paid Acrobat plan. Each of these tools uploads the file to Adobe. Filozy is an independent alternative, not affiliated with Adobe: it does the everyday jobs in your browser with no account and no daily limit, and the document stays on your device. Where Acrobat does more, this page says so.

- Compress PDF is “available for free with limited use”. Adobe says “There is no sign-up, credit card, or subscription required for basic PDF compression unless you want to save your document”, and that “Unlimited compression, batch processing, and advanced setting controls require a paid Acrobat plan.” Online, “files are processed on secure servers and then deleted automatically”; the same page notes that the Acrobat desktop app compresses “locally on your device”. - PDF to Word is “free to use with daily conversion limits”. The page says “Your file will be securely handled by Adobe servers and deleted unless you sign in to save it”, and warns: “If you use the tool again, you may be asked to sign in to download it.” Past the daily limit, it points to “a 7-day free trial of Adobe Acrobat Pro”. Adobe PDF to Word, checked September 2026
- Some tools ask for an account before you get a file back. Split PDF’s steps read “After Acrobat uploads your file, sign in”; it takes “a PDF of 1,500 pages or less” and splits it into up to 20 files. Adobe Split PDF, checked September 2026
- OCR works the same way: “Sign in to download your newly searchable PDF or get a link to share it.” Adobe lists English, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese “and more” as supported languages. Adobe OCR PDF, checked September 2026
- The free online editor is for mark-up. Its FAQ says it “does not let you edit existing body text within a PDF”, pointing to Acrobat Pro for that, and that “signing in with a free Adobe account is required to download or share your edited files.” Adobe online PDF editor, checked September 2026
- Fill & Sign: “Your file will be uploaded to Acrobat web. You must be signed in to complete the fillable form.” Adobe adds that “Requesting signatures from others and accessing audit trails may require a paid Acrobat plan.” Adobe Fill & Sign, checked September 2026
- Request e-signatures: “With a free Acrobat account, you can complete two request e-signatures transactions every 30 days on a rolling basis.” Recipients sign in their browser without an Adobe account. Adobe Request e-signatures, checked September 2026
- A free Adobe account comes with “2 GB of free storage” in Adobe cloud storage. Adobe adds that “Only free users who actively use free Adobe plans are entitled to free storage”, and warns inactive free users that “your content may be deleted”. Adobe Document Cloud FAQ, checked September 2026
- On the paid side, Adobe’s plans page says Acrobat Standard lets you edit, organise and convert PDFs, fill, sign and request e-signatures, and password-protect files. Acrobat Pro adds, among other things, “Turn scanned documents into editable, searchable PDFs”, “Compare PDFs to review differences” and “Redact sensitive information from PDFs”. What Filozy does instead
Filozy's document tools process the files on your device and save the results locally, without uploading your document to our server. Multi-step workflows can temporarily store a result in your browser to carry it to the next tool; see the privacy policy for cleanup details. The website and supporting engine files still require ordinary web requests.

When Adobe Acrobat online is the better choice
- Other people need to sign. As of September 2026, Adobe’s Request e-signatures tool emails a signing link, lets recipients sign “with no downloads, sign-ups, printing, or scanning required”, and keeps “a valuable audit trail with timestamps”. Filozy cannot send a document for signature at all.
- The signature has to prove who signed and that the file has not changed since. Adobe says Acrobat “supports certificate-based digital signatures that meet eIDAS Qualified and other international standards”. Filozy’s Sign tool places a visual signature only: much the same standing as signing a printed copy, and no certificate.
- You need to rewrite the text already in the PDF. Adobe’s free online editor cannot, but Adobe says text and image editing comes with an Acrobat Standard or Acrobat Pro subscription. Filozy’s editor adds text, highlights, shapes, drawings and stamps; its Replace text area covers the old words rather than changing them.
- The scan is not in English. Adobe’s online OCR lists English, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese “and more”. Filozy’s OCR reads English only.
- The job is one Filozy does not offer: PDF to PowerPoint, HEIC, TIFF, GIF, BMP, Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign files to PDF, or AI chat and summaries. As of September 2026, all of these are on Adobe’s online tools page.
- You must prove a file conforms to PDF/A, or prepare it for print. That takes Acrobat Pro, not the free online tools: Adobe’s help says Acrobat Pro “can validate PDF content against PDF/X, PDF/A, PDF/VT or PDF/E criteria”, and lists Preflight and print production tools as Acrobat Pro features. Filozy converts to PDF/A-2b but cannot validate the result in a browser.
- The form is an XFA form. Filozy refuses these, because answers written to the ordinary fields would be ignored. Adobe’s help describes XFA forms as XML forms made with Adobe LiveCycle that render in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader, so open them in the Acrobat or Reader app.
- You want your files stored and waiting on every device. As of September 2026, a free Adobe account includes 2 GB of Adobe cloud storage. Filozy has no cloud storage: the result is saved to the device you are using.
- The file is too big for the device in your hand. Adobe processes on its own servers and, as of September 2026, says its compressor takes files up to 2GB. Filozy works in your browser’s memory, and a phone can run out on a very large scan.
- Your organisation buys software centrally. As of September 2026, Adobe sells Teams plans managed “through a centralized admin console”, plus volume licensing. Filozy has no accounts, contracts or admin features.
Questions people ask
What are Acrobat online services?
It is Adobe’s name for the online side of Acrobat, reached through a web browser or the mobile apps. As of September 2026, Adobe’s plans page says a subscription includes “Acrobat online: Use PDF and e-signature tools in any web browser”, and that the one-time Acrobat Pro 2024 purchase does not include “access to Acrobat online services via your web browser and mobile devices”. Without a subscription you still get the free tools at adobe.com/acrobat/online, within their limits. Filozy covers the everyday file jobs from that list in your browser: compress, PDF to and from Word and Excel, PowerPoint to PDF, merge, split, page tools, OCR (English only), forms, signing and passwords. It does not offer PDF to PowerPoint, sending documents for e-signature, AI chat or summaries, or cloud storage.
Is Adobe Acrobat online free?
Partly, and it depends on the tool. As of September 2026, Adobe’s online tools page offers “25+ powerful PDF and e-signing tools for free”, with conditions. Compress is free “with limited use” and PDF to Word “with daily conversion limits”; both let you download a result without an account at first, though Adobe says a repeat PDF to Word user “may be asked to sign in to download it”. Split, OCR, Fill & Sign and the online editor ask you to sign in before you get the file. Unlimited compression and conversion, batch processing and editing a PDF’s existing text need a paid Acrobat plan or Adobe’s 7-day Acrobat Pro trial. Filozy has no account, no daily limit and no usage count; the practical ceiling is your device’s memory.
Do I need to sign in to use Adobe Acrobat online?
For some tools. As of September 2026, Adobe’s Compress, Merge, Protect PDF and Word to PDF pages let you download the result without signing in, and ask you to sign in only to share or save it. PDF to Word does the same the first time, but Adobe says “If you use the tool again, you may be asked to sign in to download it.” Split PDF, OCR PDF, Fill & Sign, Request e-signatures and the online editor ask you to sign in before you get your file. Adobe’s account is free. Filozy has no sign-in on any tool.
Is there a free Acrobat Reader online?
Yes. As of September 2026, Adobe says Acrobat Reader is “free to download and use, with no subscription required” and that it “also works in web browsers via the Adobe Acrobat web app”. To only read a PDF you do not need it: Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a computer open PDFs themselves, with no account and nothing uploaded. Downloading or sharing a PDF you have marked up in Adobe’s online editor needs a free Adobe account. If what you actually need is to change the file (compress, convert, sign, redact), Filozy does that in the browser without an account.
Does Adobe Acrobat online upload my file?
Yes. As of September 2026, Adobe says so on its tool pages: “Your file will be securely handled by Adobe servers and deleted unless you sign in to save it.” Files you save while signed in stay in your Adobe cloud storage. Adobe’s Compress PDF page notes that its desktop app works differently, keeping files “on your local device rather than an external server”. Filozy’s tools work that way in the browser: the document is processed on your device and is not sent to a server.
What does Adobe Acrobat online do that Filozy does not?
As of September 2026, Adobe’s online tools include sending a document for other people to sign and tracking it, PDF to PowerPoint, HEIC, TIFF, GIF, BMP and Adobe design files to PDF, OCR in languages other than English, AI chat and summaries, and cloud storage across devices. With a paid Acrobat Standard or Pro plan, Adobe also edits the existing text of a PDF, which neither Adobe’s free online editor nor Filozy does, and Adobe says Acrobat supports certificate-based digital signatures. The section “When Adobe Acrobat online is the better choice” on this page has the detail.
Is Filozy made by Adobe, and do I need an Adobe account?
No to both. Filozy is an independent website, not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Adobe; Adobe’s product names appear here only to compare. Filozy has no accounts of any kind: you open a tool, choose a file, and save the result from your browser to your device.
Can Filozy fill and sign a form like Fill & Sign?
Mostly. The Forms tool fills a PDF’s fields (text boxes, checkboxes, dropdowns and radio buttons) and can flatten the answers so they cannot be changed. For a flat form with no fields, place text boxes on it with Edit PDF. The Sign tool draws, types or places a visible signature. Neither tool fills XFA forms (the Forms tool refuses them, because answers written to the ordinary fields would be ignored) or creates a certificate-backed digital signature. Both tools save Western European letters only: Cyrillic, Greek or Chinese answers, typed names and dates, and letters such as ł, ř and ş, come out as question marks, and flattening makes that permanent, so fill those forms in Adobe Reader. A drawn or uploaded signature has no such limit.
Where do my files go with Filozy?
Nowhere. The file is read into browser memory, the operation runs on your device, and the result is saved locally. The completion receipt reports 0 document bytes sent, and your browser’s Network panel will show the same.
