pdfFiller alternative
pdfFiller is a document workspace. Filozy is a set of tools that never sees your file.
pdfFiller does a great deal that Filozy does not attempt. It keeps your documents in an account you can reach from any device, builds fillable forms, sends contracts out to be signed, and carries the compliance certifications a procurement team asks for by name. That model needs your file on their servers — that is not a criticism, it is how the product works. Filozy takes the opposite trade: every one of its 39 tools runs in a Web Worker inside your browser and the document itself never leaves your device, and it gives up storage, teams and signature workflows to do it. Below is the honest mapping, gaps included.
What pdfFiller says about your files
These summaries link to pdfFiller's published information. Plans, features and wording change; check the linked sources before choosing a service.
- pdfFiller's terms define "Your Content" as "your documents, communications, personal information, and other content you … upload into or use with the Services" — your file is uploaded to the platform in order to be worked on. pdfFiller Terms of Service
- Their security page describes where those files sit and how they are protected: "AWS Simple Storage Service (S3) storage guarantees high availability, redundancy, and provides complete data access control," and "pdfFiller uses 256-bit encryption to encrypt data at rest and transfer." pdfFiller Security
- After an account ends, the terms give a download window and make no promise past it: "On request made within thirty (30) days after termination, Provider will grant you reasonable access … solely for you to download Your Content," after which "Provider will have no obligation to maintain or provide access to any of Your Content and may thereafter delete or destroy all copies." pdfFiller Terms of Service
- The privacy notice sets retention by purpose rather than by a fixed clock — "We generally retain personal information for as long as necessary for the purposes we collected it, including satisfying any legal, financial, or reporting obligations" — and says that when you close an account it will "begin deleting it along with its information and documents." pdfFiller Privacy Notice
- Using pdfFiller starts with an account, and storage is part of the pitch: the homepage says "Register your account and start working on PDFs in minutes on any device" and "Securely store your document in the cloud and access it anytime, anywhere." pdfFiller homepage
What Filozy does instead
Filozy's document tools process the files on your device and save the results locally, without uploading your document to our server. Multi-step workflows can temporarily store a result in your browser to carry it to the next tool; see the privacy policy for cleanup details. The website and supporting engine files still require ordinary web requests.

When pdfFiller is the better choice
- You need a signature from somebody else. pdfFiller's eSign section lists "Request eSignatures" and "Create templates", and its plans page bundles signNow into the upper tier — a tracked send-and-countersign workflow. Filozy's sign-pdf only draws a signature onto a copy you already hold: no request, no audit trail, and no certified digital signature of any kind.
- You want the document to still be there tomorrow. pdfFiller is built around an account, and its homepage offers to "Securely store your document in the cloud and access it anytime, anywhere," with folders, reusable templates and version history around it. Filozy has no storage whatsoever — close the tab and the work is gone unless you saved the output file yourself.
- You are authoring fillable forms, not just filling them. pdfFiller's Forms section lists "Form builder", "Create fillable forms", "Add checkboxes" and "Remove fields", plus collecting responses through web forms. Filozy can fill and flatten a form that already exists; it cannot build one.
- Procurement wants certifications on paper. pdfFiller's security page lists SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, GDPR with EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework participation, FERPA, CCPA/CPRA and PCI DSS. Filozy is closed-source and holds none of these — its privacy argument is architectural rather than audited, and for a regulated employer that distinction usually matters.
- You need capabilities Filozy simply does not have. pdfFiller's plans page describes a large library of state-specific US legal forms, and its AI Tools section lists "OCR", "Translation" and "Scanned documents restoration". Filozy's OCR recognises English only, and its interface is English only.
Questions people ask
Does Filozy upload my PDF the way pdfFiller does?
No. Every Filozy tool runs in a Web Worker inside your own browser, so the document bytes never reach a server — a finished job prints a receipt like "3 pages · 412ms · 0 document bytes sent". To be precise about what that does and does not claim: opening the page still fetches Filozy's own HTML, CSS and code from Cloudflare, the way any website does. The claim is that your document never leaves your device, not that the page makes no network requests. pdfFiller, by its own terms, takes your upload into the Services so it can store and process it.
Can Filozy send a contract out for signature like pdfFiller?
No, and this is the clearest gap between the two. Filozy's sign-pdf places a drawn or uploaded signature onto a PDF you already have. It cannot email a signing request, track who has signed, generate an audit trail, or apply a certified or cryptographic digital signature. If any of that is part of your process, pdfFiller is the right tool and Filozy is not a substitute.
Is pdfFiller free?
pdfFiller leads with a free trial rather than a permanently free tier, and its plans page lists three individual tiers — Basic, Plus and Premium — with the fuller feature set on the upper tiers; check that page for current prices, since they change and vary by region. An account is part of the flow either way: the homepage asks you to "Register your account and start working on PDFs in minutes on any device." Filozy is free with no account, no daily limit and no watermark.
Can Filozy replace pdfFiller completely?
For most pdfFiller customers, no. Filozy has 39 tools against a considerably larger catalogue, and it deliberately has no cloud storage, no team or admin features, no templates or folders, no non-English interface, and no signature-request workflow. Where it wins is narrow and specific: one-off document surgery — merging, splitting, rotating, converting, redacting — that you would rather not hand to a server.
What about scanned documents and OCR?
Filozy's ocr-pdf runs in the browser and recognises English only, so a scan in any other language is out of reach. pdfFiller lists "OCR" and "Scanned documents restoration" under its AI Tools. There is a second honest caveat on our side: because the work happens on your device, a very large scan can exhaust memory on a phone. That is the real cost of not uploading, and it is worth knowing before you start.
