Filozy

CloudConvert alternative

The CloudConvert alternative for PDF work you would rather keep on your own machine.

CloudConvert is a serious conversion engine: by its own count, 212 formats across 11 categories, a documented API with cloud-storage import and export, and ISO 27001 certification from TÜV Süd for operator Lunaweb GmbH's information security management system — made in Munich, and "trusted since 2012" in its own words. Filozy is much narrower — 39 PDF tools, nothing else — but every one of them runs inside your browser, so the document never reaches a server. Here is where each one is the better choice, using their statements and ours.

What Filozy does instead

Filozy's document tools process the files on your device and save the results locally, without uploading your document to our server. Multi-step workflows can temporarily store a result in your browser to carry it to the next tool; see the privacy policy for cleanup details. The website and supporting engine files still require ordinary web requests.

When CloudConvert is the better choice

Questions people ask

Does CloudConvert upload my files, and how long does it keep them?

Yes — the conversion runs on their servers. CloudConvert's privacy policy says your selected files are transferred to and temporarily stored on its servers, that they are "deleted immediately and irreversible from our servers when using the delete button" (the "×" beside the download button), and that this happens "automatically at the latest after 24 hours". Its security page is tighter still: each conversion runs in a separate, isolated container, "Files are kept only for processing and deleted immediately afterwards.", and the service intentionally provides no permanent storage — so 24 hours is a ceiling, not a retention period. Servers are in Germany, with US servers used for people accessing from the US. Filozy works the other way round: the PDF is opened by code running in a Web Worker on your own machine, and each job ends with a receipt reading something like "3 pages · 412ms · 0 document bytes sent" that you can check yourself in DevTools → Network.

Is Filozy free, and how does that compare with CloudConvert's free plan?

Filozy is free with no account, no daily quota and no file-size cap beyond what your device's memory can hold — there is no server bill to cover, because your computer does the work. CloudConvert's pricing page lists its Free plan at €0 with 10 conversion credits per day, a 1 GB maximum file size, a 5-minute maximum processing time, 5 concurrent tasks and low processing priority. Credits run at about one per minute of conversion time, with a minimum that depends on the job type — at least 1 credit for a general conversion, 2 for Office or iWork to PDF and 4 for PDF to Office. That figure is a floor rather than an extra charge on top, so a PDF-to-Office job that finishes inside a minute costs 4 credits, and two of them use 8 of the 10 free daily credits.

What can CloudConvert do that Filozy cannot?

A great deal outside PDFs. CloudConvert states it handles 212 formats across 11 categories — Documents, Images, Video, Audio, Spreadsheets, Slides, E-books, Archives, Vector, CAD and Fonts — and it also converts a website to PDF or captures it as a PNG or JPG screenshot, creates ZIP, RAR, 7Z and TAR archives, and makes thumbnails. It has a REST API, an MCP server, no-code connectors, documented cloud-storage import and export, OCR in many languages, and an iOS app for iPhone and iPad. Filozy is 39 PDF tools in a browser tab: no API, no cloud storage, no native apps, no team features, English-only OCR and an English-only interface.

Can Filozy replace CloudConvert for PDF to Word, or for signing?

For a clean single-column document, yes, and the file never leaves your machine. But Filozy's PDF-to-Word puts each line back where it was drawn rather than rebuilding paragraphs, headings or tables, so newsletters and pages with sidebars keep their look but will need tidying up afterwards if you want to edit them, and a server-side converter with more processing power often reconstructs those better. On signing: Filozy's sign tool places a drawn, typed or uploaded signature on the page. It does not issue certified or digital signatures, which need a certificate authority and a timestamp service, so if your recipient requires a cryptographically verifiable signature neither tool here is the answer — CloudConvert does not list a document-signing tool.

If nothing is uploaded, is Filozy completely offline with no network requests?

No, and we would rather say so plainly. Your document never leaves your device, but filozy.com is an ordinary website: it is served through Cloudflare and uses cookieless Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is described in our privacy policy. Page assets and the tool's code do travel over the network — your PDF does not. Open the Network tab while you run a job and you will see the page load, and no document bytes leaving.
